A FUNDRAISING page has been set up in memory of Oneil Din after he died while swimming on holiday.

The 27-year-old from Coventry - who was known as Kenny - was pulled from the sea at Newquay in Cornwall after being caught in a rip tide.

He had been on holiday in the popular seaside town with friends, two of who were reportedly rescued by local surfers, before being airlifted to hospital on Tuesday evening.

The men, aged 17 and 18, are not believed to be seriously injured.

A YouCaring crowdfunding page called the Help Kenny Din Bereavement Fund was set up on Wednesday and has already raised nearly £2,000.

The description on the page states: “On Tuesday August 15, this 27-year-old, man of God and great guy tragically lost his life while swimming in the sea on holiday.

“A fund has been set up to help his parents with the cost of repatriating his body back to Coventry and the funeral cost that will be encountered.

“Any amount will be greatly received along with your love with this special guy.”

Tributes to Oneil have been paid on Facebook, with a post from Handog Natin Charity reading: “Our deepest sympathy to the Din family.

“Kenny was well-known to the Filipino community of Coventry and was an inspiration to a number of our youths. We are all saddened with his untimely demise. He will be remembered as a loving son and brother to us all.

“Our prayers and thoughts are with you and the whole Din family.”

The Great Commission Ministry church’s Coventry branch also paid tribute on Facebook, stating: “We mourn for the untimely demise of our dear brother Kenny Oneil Din who has now gone home to our Father in heaven.

“You will always be in our hearts whom you have touched.

“So long, farewell our dear brother, you are at home now with the Lord.”
