AFTER months of frenzied speculatio­n, the actor, right, this week confirmed on America’s Late Show that he will play James Bond one last time. The movie, which will be 007’s 25th outing, is due out in November 2019.

BEER

A PINT of beer or a glass of wine a day can help older people live longer, according to research. The potential “protective” benefits of moderate drinking “clearly outweigh” the possible cancer risk, experts said. Drinking 14 units or less per week for men, or seven for women, was linked to a 13% reduced risk of “all-cause mortality” in men and a 34% lower risk in women.

THE top chef’s self-titled restaurant has been handed the title of best restaurant in the UK by the Good Food Guide. It was praised for its efforts to “educate and encourage the public appetite for fish”.

THE singer this week struck a blow for victims of sexual assault everywhere when she won her court case against a US radio DJ who she accused of groping her bottom. He had sued her first – for up to $3m – accusing her of costing him his job. Swift settled for just $1 compensati­on from him... and the moral victory.

THE star has broken his ankle filming a stunt for the new Mission Impossible 6 movie in London. It means that production on the action blockbuste­r will be set back by as much as two months.

CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP

NOEL EDMONDS’ new daytime game show, where contestant­s have to guess which item is the cheapest, is a ratings disaster with just 270,000 viewers tuning in to the opener and many not sticking around to the end of the show.

PINEAPPLES

THEY seem perfectly harmless to us but organisers of the Leeds and Reading festivals have placed them on a list of banned items. There was concern that fans of the band Glass Animals would turn up with the exotic fruit in tribute to their song Pork Soda, with the lyrics, “pineapples in my head”.

BIG BEN

BIG BEN will bong for the last time on Monday before falling silent for four years – the longest period in its 158-year history as the world’s most famous bell undergoes a £29m restoratio­n. The bell will be paused until 2021 to keep workers safe. But it will still ring out on New Year and Remembranc­e Sunday.
