Man hands himself in to police after pensioner died in M42 smash
A MAN has handed himself in after a Coventry pensioner died in a collision on the M42.
The 36-year-old went to a police station in Birmingham where he was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
It followed a crash on the M42 near Tamworth Services at 8.50pm on Saturday in which an 83-yearold man in a gold Vauxhall Agila was killed. A 74-year-old woman who was in the same car remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital. Police said the other car involved was a Peugeot 307.
A spokesman for Warwickshire Police said: “A 36-year-old man from Birmingham has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving following a collision on the M42 on Saturday night. The man presented himself to a police station in Birmingham following a police appeal.
“An 83-year-old man from Coventry was declared dead at the scene of the collision which occurred at 8.50pm on the northbound carriageway between junctions 10 and 11. A 74-year-old woman was taken to hospital where she is in a serious but stable condition. A Peugeot 307 was in collision with a gold Vauxhall Agila which contained the deceased and the injured.”
Det Insp Tim Sharp said: “We are continuing to investigate the cause of the collision and we’re keen to speak to anyone who witnessed it or has any other information that could help with our enquiries. We would also like to speak to anyone who saw either of the vehicles prior to the collision.”
