MORE restaurants are said to be heading for Cathedral Lanes after the Telegraph revealed The Botanist was the latest operator set to move to the complex.

The upmarket restaurant and bar will open in the city centre early next year, with a licensing application already submitted to Coventry City Council.

But Cllr Jim O’Boyle, the council’s cabinet member for jobs, has told the Telegraph more are set to follow in their footsteps.

Cathedral Lanes has become a thriving restaurant quarter in recent years with Wagamama, Las Iguanas and Cosy Club all enjoying success there.

Burger bar Five Guys previously topped a Telegraph poll as the venue Coventry residents would most like to see.

Earlier this year, it emerged eleven operators were interested in seven new restaurants to be created at the site as part of Shearer Property Group’s expansion plans for the complex.

Cllr Jim O’Boyle said: “We know that local people want improvements to the city centre and we know there is some catching up to do.

“But we are headed in the right direction and this is another step in the transformation of Cathedral Lanes.

“We’ve worked hand in hand with the developer to make this happen and I’m sure there will be even more news on some new names for Cathedral Lanes soon.

He added: “I’m really pleased that yet another new restaurant is set to open in Cathedral Lanes.

“The Botanist is one of the country’s leading restaurant chains and it’s great that they have decided to open a branch right in the heart of our city centre.

“I’m sure they will be a real success here, joining the three other restaurants that are already thriving at Cathedral Lanes.

“I look forward to The Botanist opening next year.”

“I’m also eager to get to work on reinstating the original and wide connection between Hertford Street to Broadgate by removing the Nationwide building and punching through to remove the visual block between the two areas. Hopefully this work can start early next year.

“Work on the water park is well underway and our plans for city centre south are taking shape.

“There’s lots to do - but these improvements will help to create a city centre everyone can be proud of.”

The Botanist is set to become the latest restaurant to move into Cathedral Lanes.

Some of The Botanist’s signature items are its “hanging kebabs”, watering cans filled with cocktails and carafes of gin and tonic.

The Botanist already has 14 other venues including Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle and Leeds.

The description of The Botanist on its website describes itself as a “secret garden”.
