Courtney named as surprise sub for Swans
FORMER Coventry City Academy striker Courtney Baker-Richardson was named as a substitute for Premier League club Swansea City on Tuesday night.
The Swans were in Carabao Cup action against MK Dons and the 21-year-old striker was a surprise addition on the replacement’s bench at Stadium MK, just 24 hours after leading the line for the U23s.
Swansea overcame the League One outfit with relative ease after cruising to a 4-1 win and, while BakerRichardson remained on the sidelines, the experience of travelling with the first team will hold him in good stead as he continues to develop.
The striker impressed for the Young Swans against a Manchester United side that included Ashley Young and Luke Shaw on Monday night, playing 85 minutes at the Liberty Stadium alongside former Sky Blues defender Cian Harries.
The Coventry-born centre forward completed a sensational move to South Wales from non-league side Leamington FC, on a two-year deal earlier this summer.
He started his career with the Sky Blues, making two first-team appearances in the 2013-14 season but was let go at 18 and has also had spells with Tamworth, Nuneaton and Redditch before joining Leamington.
Coventry City reportedly turned down the chance to re-sign their academy product at the end of last season, leaving the door open for a host of professional clubs to snap up the prolific striker.
Leicester City took the striker on trial before he sealed a dream move to Swansea just days later. Courtney Baker-Richardson in his Leamington days
