Mothercare exit is NOT reflection on city retail park

...THAT’S ACCORDING TO BOSSES AT CENTRAL SIX

MOTHERCARE’S decision to close down its Coventry store is “no reflection” on the Central Six Retail Park where it is based – according to the site’s bosses.

Central Six management have released a statement after the Telegraph exclusively revealed that Mothercare was closing down its Coventry store with no plans to relocate elsewhere in the city.

The retailer of baby and children’s goods has been a mainstay of Central Six since it opened in the city during the late 1990s.

It is the latest blow for the shopping park – owned by Standard Life Aberdeen – which has also suffered the loss of clothing giants Gap, shoe company Brantano and outdoor store Mountain Warehouse in recent years.

But Central Six management appeared resolute and insisted it constantly reviewed its retail line up.

A spokesman for Central Six said: “We can confirm that Mothercare will close at Central Six, Coventry, as of October 2017.

“This is the result of a corporate decision, and is no reflection on the centre.

“We constantly review the retailer line up at the centre to ensure we provide the best retail experience for our customers and have no further comment at this stage.”

A statement previously issued to the Telegraph from Mothercare said: “Mothercare Coventry will close on Monday, October 2, 2017. We will be emailing our customers in the local area to advise of the changes and provide details of the nearest stores.

“We greatly value all our customers in the local area and would like to thank them for their continued loyalty and support for Mothercare.

“Whilst we regret the closure of the store, it is part of a larger transformation plan for our business.”

The Early Learning Centre, based in the store, will also close in October.

The PixiFoto photography studio concession, which was based in the store, left the shop last month.

There has been no update from Mothercare on the number of jobs at risk as a result of the closure.
