Tip offs that are helping tackle drugs menace

- By CLAIRE HARRISON News Reporter news@trinitymirror.com

TIP-OFFS from the community are helping a team tasked with breaking drugs networks across Nuneaton and Bedworth.

Officers from the Offender Management Unit (OMU) say that they are acting on intelligence passed on to them on a daily basis.

So far this year, the team have made more than 40 drugs related arrests.

Det Sgt Chris Cook said: “Drugs are the main driver for acquisitive crime and we are receiving intelligence and information daily and are committed to acting on this.”

While on patrol on Wednesday, the OMU team spotted a man acting suspiciously in the Stanley Road area of town.

He was detained for a drug search and a small amount of cannabis was found.

Officers then found a car key and found his vehicle parked in Midland Road.

They searched the car and found a quantity of crack cocaine and heroin inside along with cash.

The vehicle was also found to be on false plates and had been stolen from the Birmingham area in June. Officers arrested a 24-year-old man from Birmingham on suspicion of theft of motor vehicle and possession with intent to supply class A.

Following interview, he was released under investigation whilst forensic work is completed.

“This is another satisfying result for Warwickshire Police and the OMU,” Det Sgt Cook said.

Anyone with any information about drugrelated crime in their community should call 101 or the Crimestoppers hotline, which is free to call from a landline and confidential, on 0800 555 111.
