A YOUNG Coventry boy has won a scholarship to one of the most prestigious dancing schools in the country.

Alfie Pearce, 14, has been dancing at the Allesley School of Dance since the age of eight.

He has been studying ballet, contemporary, jazz and tap at the Allesley School of Dance in Coventry since the age of eight, taught by his grandmother June Pughe and mother Lizzie Pearce.

His talent has now been recognised by one of the best dancing schools in England.

Alfie has won the scholarship worth £35,000 and will have strong classical training alongside an in depth training in jazz, contemporary and commercial dance.

June Pughe, Principal of the Allesley School of Dance, said: “We will all miss Alfie so very much, but he is an extremely able dancer and we couldn’t be happier that his talent has been recognised at such an excellent school.

“We are absolutely delighted that he has been given this wonderful opportunity thanks to the government funded Music and Dance Scheme.

“This highly prestigious and competitive scholarship awarded only to the most outstanding and talented dancers allows him to board at Tring Park from September where he will be taught by the country’s top dance teaching faculty alongside the benefits of a fine academic education.”

June founded Allesley Dance more than 60 years ago, and even taught Alfie’s mum Lizzie.

Alfie has appeared in numerous shows, more recently at the Albany Theatre.
