Two Coventry business owners have signed up to help Wasps reach a charity milestone in their 150th season.

Wasps have launched a star-studded charity cycling challenge from London to Coventry to mark the club’s 150th anniversary – and to help Wasps raise £50,000 for Dallaglio RugbyWorks

The programme was set up by former club captain and Wasps director Lawrence Dallaglio to help disadvantaged 14 to 17-year-olds achieve sustained education, employment or training.

The event is taking place over two days on 30 September and 1 October, starting at Twickenham Stadium before making the 150-mile journey to the Ricoh Arena.

The Wasps 150 Anniversary Ride is designed to take in all of Wasps iconic training and match-day grounds before finishing at the 150th anniversary fixture at the Ricoh Arena, which will be an Aviva Premiership clash against Bath.

Steve Twigger, a director at city accountants LDP Luckmans, has teamed up with Adam Dent, of citybased communications firm Advent Communications, to raise more than £1,000 by taking part in the event.

Twigger, a board director at the Chamber of Commerce, said: “Wasps have made a real impact since they arrived in Coventry and Warwickshire and it is great that they are using their 150th anniversary to raise money for a range of charities.

“This particular initiative appealed because the work the foundation does really helps young people and has achieved some great results.

“Sport – and rugby in particular – can really instil confidence, discipline and direction in young people and that has been powerfully harnessed by Dallaglio RugbyWorks.

“Signing up was easy, raising the money will take some time but the hard bit will be making it to the Ricoh!”

Nick Eastwood, CEO of Wasps Group, said: “This is a big season for us on and off the field, and the bike ride will be one of the highlights of the year.

“We are really grateful to people like Adam and Steve who have signed up and are working hard to not only raise the money but also in terms of training for the physical challenge.”
