THUGS THROW ROCKS AT MOVING BUS

ANGRY PASSENGER SAYS THEY ARE PUTTING LIVES AT RISK

- > JORDAN COUSSINS REPORTS:

MINDLESS thugs have been blasted for putting passengers’ lives at risk after they pelted rocks at a moving Bedworth bus.

Passengers of the number 20 bus and bosses at National Express have slammed the yobs following the shocking incident on Park Road in the town centre at around 10pm on Thursday, August 31.

Tony Dallison, head of security at National Express Coventry, said the behaviour was completely unacceptable and CCTV has been passed onto the police in a bid to identify the offenders.

He said: “Throwing stones at buses is very dangerous and completely unacceptable.

“It puts our passengers at risk and means customers can’t use a bus while we’re repairing the damage.

“We work very closely with safer travel police to identify the people responsible for this kind of antisocial behaviour and bring them to justice.

“All our buses are fitted with CCTV to identify offenders.

“In addition, the windows in all our buses are covered in a sheet of film which helps stop any shattered glass falling onto passengers inside the bus.”

The number 20 service provides passengers with a route between Bedworth, Longford, Foleshill Road and Coventry city centre.

A passenger, who did not want to be named, spoke of her shock following the attack which caused panic among fellow riders.

“It was really scary,” she said. “I heard a huge thump but I couldn’t really see what happened.

“I heard the driver radioing it through to the HQ and asked for police to be informed.

“I don’t understand why they would do this? Don’t they know they are putting people’s lives at risk.”

Warwickshire Police has confirmed they are aware of the incident and is appealing for anyone with information to contact them on 101.

Alternatively, anyone who saw the offenders can contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111 or via their anonymous online report form at crimestoppers.org
