A winter of discontent with our wheelie bins?

-

ARE we going to have a winter of discontent with our wheelie bin collections?

Things once ran smoothly, however we have come a long way from when metal bins were carried high on the shoulders of operatives with leather collars and hot ashes blowing out from the bins.

Now bins must not be too heavy, nor too full, as you may get a sticker on your bin that would not be emptied.

How long will it be before we have to run along the side of the dust cart ourselves and press the button for our rubbish to go into the lorry?

What is going on with the system? We are told that it is the government but if councils did not waste money on fruitless projects we all may have our bins emptied on the designated day. I hope we do not go down the Birmingham pathway and our bins remain unemptied as theirs have done. Better house keeping surely is the order of the day; better financial planning. We have executives being paid huge amounts of money – why is wild spending being allowed to go ahead? Where are the balance sheets, who checks them?

We have certain things we need to put right within the city. We need a by-law to ban cycling from the city centre for one thing. Trying to help those sleeping in doorways is another – this does not portray a would-be City of Culture to visitors, or the people making decisions as to grant culture status.

Nor does unemptied wheelie bins decorating the sides of our roads.
