Edgbaston to take centre stage again

-

ENGLAND will face India at Edgbaston in the first of a five-match Test series next summer.

Virat Kohli’s side return to the Midlands on Wednesday, August 1 to face an England side keen to build on their record at Edgbaston of three consecutive victories and five wins in the last six Tests.

Before the arrival of the Indians, England will play Australia on Wednesday, June 27 in the tourists’ only international Twenty20 fixture on their limited-overs tour. It will be the first time the great Ashes rivals have met in an IT20 at Edgbaston.

The Bears will also host NatWest T20 Blast Finals Day on Saturday, September 15.

Neil Snowball, Warwickshire’s chief executive, said: “Having just finished our 2017 Major Match programme with a record attendance for a NatWest T20 Blast Finals Day, we’re very excited at the schedule for next year.

“Hosting the first match of the high summer Test series was previously a regular event at Edgbaston, and we are delighted to see this return and hope it can continue for the 2019 Ashes series and beyond.

“We’ve not hosted an International T20 since 2014, so to host the only fixture between England and Australia is a good result for Edgbaston and it’s certainly an occasion where we will have to consider increasing our capacity again with a temporary stand.”
