Flat closed off after claims it was used as a drugs den
A FLAT in Bedworth has been shut down and its resident ordered to stay away after claims it was being used as a drugs den and making neighbours’ lives a misery.
No one can enter the flat in Potlidgate Court for three months following the successful legal action by Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council and Warwickshire Police.
Magistrates granted the order on September 5 and it was served on the occupant, who has not been identified, but is now banned from entering the property.
The council’s communities officer, Warwickshire Police Safer Neighbourhood Team and PA Housing, the landlords of Potlidgate Court, applied to magistrates at Warwickshire Justice Centre for the closure order following numerous reports and complaints about the use and supply of illegal drugs and high levels of anti-social behaviour from the address.
The council say the closure and ban proves they are taking a tough stance on people who cause problems for their neighbours.
Councillor Gwynne Pomfrett, cabinet member for central services and the chairperson of the Nuneaton and Bedworth Safer Communities Partnership said: “This closure order is yet another example of the council’s commitment to addressing serious anti-social behaviour perpetrated by residents in the borough. We will not tolerate our communities being affected by this type of behaviour, and working closely with the police our response in this case reflects that.
“The granting of this closure order is the culmination of agencies working together to deal with a property which has caused much distress to the local community.
“This sends out a very clear message that this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated in the borough. We will continue to utilise all the powers available to us to address issues of crime and anti-social behaviour.”
