Eaden praise for City kids

COVENTRY City’s Under-23s continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 2-1 victory over Sheffield United despite being forced to field a weakened side due to an injury crisis in the first team.

The young Sky Blues were without midfielders Callum Maycock and Jordan Shipley as well as prolific striker Jordan Ponticelli, all of whom are expected to be involved in tonight’s League Two fixture against Carlisle United.

After going behind early in the first half to a Jordan Hallam strike, the development side scored twice after the break with goals from Billy Stedman and Bilal Sayoud securing the victory.

Following the win, the Under-23s manager Nicky Eaden said he was delighted with the three points, especially given the manner in which they achieved victory.

“What’s really pleasing today is that we’ve had a few injuries with the first team so I’ve lost about six players from what I would call my strongest team but the kids have stepped up,” he said. “We only had one central midfielder in the team so people have had to fill in but they’ve really stuck at it and got their reward.”
