Give those in vital services decent pay Follow neighbour’s lead to resolve rubbish issue

- Councillor Jayne Innes

COVENTRY City Council needs to follow the lead of Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council for collecting refuse.

We have three bins, green for garden and food waste, brown lidded for plastics and glass with a separate insert box for paper and cardboard (extra card or paper can be placed tidily at the side if the insert gets full), and a grey bin for everything else.

Collections are made as follows: grey bin once a fortnight and the green and brown lidded bin collected the week in between. We too were issued with a ‘caddy’ but I prefer to use the small recyclable bags that we can purchase in Wilkos or we can in fact just put the food waste directly into the green bin.

These collections are made religiously, even on bank holidays, except Christmas when the green bin collection is suspended for two collection weeks only and, depending on which day Christmas Day falls, the other bins are collected one or two days forward from the normal day, then after one fortnight cycle everything returns to normal.

This has worked exceptionally well for many years now and this is one area I will certainly praise Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council for. Well done. Moira Gregory Nuneaton

Annoyed by waste bin costs

IF I hired a builder to build me a garage for £5,000 and then after completion they turned round and presented me with a bill for £10,000 I think I would be within my rights to be pretty annoyed to say the least. Councillor Jayne Innes who, and not for the first time, has had one of her faux pas experiences, as it has emerged that the new waste bins have cost us more than double what was originally stated.

Thankfully, Independent Councillor Glenn Williams spotted this error and grilled Cllr Innes on the matter at a recent council meeting.

We now seem to have so many different bins it’s all getting a bit confusing. However, may I suggest we have another special ‘bin’ for disposing of rubbish councillors? Alternatively we can wait for the next local elections to say goodbye to bad rubbish. Brian Nathan-Partridge Stivichall THERESA May insists that the police, firemen, paramedics and nurses all deserve a decent pay rise, but insists there isn’t any money available.

May I suggest that she either reduces or cancels our foreign aid bill, and stops making payments to the EU?

That will give her more than enough money to pay the people who work in these vital services, a decent wage commensurate to the difficult and dangerous jobs that they have to do. Peter Surtees Bedworth

Thanks for return of my bag in IKEA

I RECENTLY visited Madrid and purchased a beautiful yellow leather shoulder bag.

Last week I went to IKEA in Coventry and confused my yellow bag with their yellow shopping bag and left it amongst a pile of pillows! Not an easy mistake but one I made.

Realising frantically 15 minutes later that my bag was missing, I was so relieved to see it with one of the staff members.

Thank you from me and my boys to whoever handed it in so promptly.

Thank you for your integrity and your honesty and if you believe in pay it forward then when you need some help, you will find it too. Louise Armfield Alcester

Where can I find culture bid stickers?

I HAVE so far been unable to find stickers that show support for Coventry’s UK City of Culture bid for 2021.

My intention was to put them on bags as well as on a lapel. Ian Harris Radford
