Boro’s FA Cup draw ‘tough but winnable’

NUNEATON Town boss Tommy Wright has labelled their FA Cup Third Qualifying Round draw as “tough but winnable” as the Boro go in search of a run in knockout football this season.

The Boro were paired up with Nantwich Town in an away-day trip on September 30, a less than daunting journey after Nuneaton swept past lowerleague Kings Lynn in the previous round at the weekend.

Now, after once again being paired with lower league opposition, Wright is confident Boro’s run will not come to an end just yet.

He said: “It is a tough game as we are away from home and they have some decent players, but it is one we should not be losing to be honest.

“We have already faced one banana skin in this competition in the form of Kings Lynn and we came through that.

“The good thing is we will know what to expect and know how to get through it. It will be about staying professional and just getting the job done.”

Despite being heavy favourites, on paper at least, Wright said he would not be leaving anything to chance when it came to the match-up at the end of the month.

He said: “I will go and watch them tonight against Hednesford. It is lucky that they are playing down this neck of the woods in a sense, and I have already made some phone calls to see what kind of team they are.

“One of them was to Wayne Thomas who is manager of Rushall. He played against them a few weeks ago and has told me a few things already.

“I will do all I can to make sure we are as prepared for them as we are any other team. This is a competition we want to do well in, I have made no secret of that.”

Before that, though, they have to take on Southport in the Vanarama National League North this weekend.

Wright is hoping his team can get a win in that one and get some much-needed momentum.

He said: “Me and the boys have spoken about it and, with Southport losing their last four games and with two games against lower league sides sandwiched either side of that one, this is a great chance to make it three straight wins.”
