Has council abandoned our city’s football club? Residents fed up with stadium woes

-

ON reading your story of Wednesday, September 13 stating Coventry City’s deal to play at the Ricoh Arena expires at the end of this season. Can we assume that Coventry City Council have abandoned the ‘club’?

I’m sure if they were still a Premiership team, we would not be in this position.

Moving to the Butts Stadium is a big step backwards that CCFC will never recover from. Also, they will be nearer to the city centre than they were before, along with the associated traffic problems.

I thought councils were elected to serve the people, not dictate.

Speaking of councils, does Andy Street know where Coventry is? John Ashby Woodway Park

Tell us the benefits of food caddies

I REALLY cannot see what use the food caddies are and am confused by the instructions. My understanding is that once you have bagged up the food contents, the bag has to be binned in either the green lidded or brown bin. Why, then, do we have to have a separate bin to bag the food waste to do this? A lot of money has been spent on these caddies and I think a better explanation to the public of what advantages and what then happens to the food waste that necessitates the use of the caddy might be good. Finally, I don’t fancy having any food waste caddy smelling my kitchen out. Diana Rawson Allesley

I’ll use my caddy for non-compostables

FOOD waste for compost? I will most definitely use my food caddy.

I will fill it with all the not compostable food waste products that don’t get recycled on my petite garden compost heap, as they are not recommended for composting, for example breads, citrus fruit etc.

To waste so much council money without at least adding a leaflet telling people what food waste to avoid seems utterly senseless to me. So in conclusion, my food caddy will be used for food waste not recommended for composting. This completely defeats the object of such a waste of our money. J Witney Radford

Invite for city fans on Non-League Day

IT is Non-League Day on Saturday, October 7. This a request to all football league fans – if you are not watching your team on this day, go and support your local team.

For all Coventry City fans, which I am, going to Barnet – all Coventry fans have been invited to Hadley FC before or after the game.

Hadley FC have decided to offer free entry on the day to anyone with a ticket stub from the Barnet game, or with a season ticket for any professional team.

They would be really grateful if you could spread the word about this as they hope to get a good number of Barnet fans along after the game, as well as local Arsenal and Tottenham fans.

Coventry fans will be made very welcome, even if they are just looking for a quick post-match pint before heading home rather than staying for the game.

The ground is 3.9 miles from Barnet FC, 13 minutes away by car at Barnet Gate Sports Ground, Brickfield Lane, Arkley, EN5 3LD.

Visit hadleyfc.co.uk for details. John Leekey Address supplied IN your issue on September 7 you reported that travellers had broken into Brandon Stadium again for the second time.

It’s seven times now since Brandon Estates paid Atvar Sandhu £2.7 million. The last time, they also broke into the stadium and track. They have wrecked the place, it’s all damaged beyond repair. No more speedway at the stadium.

You should send someone to take a photograph of the mess the travellers have left, and all the glass windows in the stands broken.

The police said they have to catch them breaking and entering before they can charge them. What a laugh. In my opinion, the police are frightened of them. Brandon Bees, Brandon Stox and now Brandon Estates – none of the residents can find out who or where Brandon Estates are.

All the residents are fed up with what’s going on. It’s about time Rugby Borough Council made Brandon Estates secure the gates permanently, and give the residents some peace. A Bateman Brandon
