Law firm trainee raises funds to help tackle lung cancer

AN award-winning trainee at a Coventry and Warwickshire law firm has zipped her way to raising more than £1,000 for charity.

Rubeena Mehat, a trainee at Coventry and Kenilworthbased Mander Hadley Solicitors, took on the Zip Wire Velocity Challenge at the Penrhyn Slate Quarry, near Bethesda in North Wales.

She chose to travel on the world’s fastest zipline to raise money for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.

Dozens of donations have helped Rubeena along the way to meeting her £1,000 fundraising target for the charity, which is the only one in the UK wholly dedicated to the defeat of lung cancer.

Rubeena said: “This was an incredible, adrenalin-filled experience and I am thrilled that I have been able to meet my fundraising target for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.

“It is a privilege to be able to help them give help and hope to people affected by lung cancer through research into the early detection of the disease, helping people to quit smoking and campaigning for better outcomes for lung cancer patients.

“I’d like to thank everyone who donated for their generosity.”

In June, Rubeena was presented with the Young Achiever award at the British Indian Awards in recognition of her charity work, including acting as the coordinator and ambassador of City Sikhs Network for the Midlands and fundraising for Coventry Cyrenians.
