A taste of life at Warwick Prep

- By DAVID WHINYATES Special Correspondent

WARWICK Preparatory School will be opening its door for its first open event of the academic year later this month.

From 9.30am until 12 noon on Saturday, September 30, prospective families are invited in to get a taste of life at the school.

There will be a number of tour guides on hand to give each family a personal tour around the excellent range of facilities. There will be displays around the school with a programme of activities taking place throughout the morning.

Head mistress Mrs Hellen Dodsworth will be giving a talk and will be available, along with a number of senior staff, to answer any questions.

Mrs Dodsworth, commented: “Our open events are a great opportunity to see what our school has to offer. Our Upper School girls act as excellent tour guides showing each family around and giving them first-hand experience of their time at the school.

“At Warwick Prep, we encourage individuality, initiative, creativity, independence and enquiry, together with a love of learning which we hope will last a lifetime. We want our pupils to become well rounded and confident individuals by finding a proper balance between academic excellence, opportunity, challenge and fun.”

Warwick Preparatory School is an independent day school and nursery of more than 460 children - boys from 3 to 7 and girls from 3 to 11. The school is situated a mile from Warwick town centre and is surrounded by attractive grounds and playing fields.

The buildings provide outstanding, modern, secure, purpose-built teaching areas. Here the school strives to create a supportive and stimulating environment which encourages children’s natural curiosity and eagerness to learn.

The teaching programmes are based upon the National Curriculum, but go far beyond it, adding many extra experiences and opportunities for learning.

The aim is to develop each child’s potential and nurture talents, be they academic, musical, sporting, artistic or practical. To achieve this, it is essential that every pupil receives personal attention and so an exceptionally large staff is employed. This team of dedicated and enthusiastic teachers and support staff cares for the children and encourages them in all aspects of school life, with the form teacher being the key link between home and school.

Together with King’s High School (girls aged 11 to 18) and Warwick School (boys aged 7 to 18) Warwick Prep belongs to the Warwick Independent Schools Foundation. The three schools are within walking distance of each other and so benefit from shared facilities and the many links which exist between the schools.

The boys remain with Warwick Prep until the age of 7 at which point almost all move onto Warwick School. Girls stay until the age of 11. The great majority then take the entrance examination for King’s High School. Some girls also sit the 11-plus examination for entrance to Warwickshire’s grammar schools and a small number sometimes move to other local state and independent schools.

We encourage individuality, initiative, creativitiy, independence and enquiry together with a love of learning. Helen Dodsworth
