Students excel as new examinations come into effect

- By DAVID WHINYATES Special Correspondent Cameron Kanda has earned a place at Oxford University

FOXFORD students celebrated excellent results in both GCSE and A-level examinations this summer.

The GCSE students, who were the first cohort to sit the new 9-1 examinations in English and mathematics, were particularly delighted as they achieved their target grades in these subjects and, in many cases, exceeded them.

Foxford was particularly pleased with the results as these were new qualifications which were surrounded by much uncertainty. Students were equally successful in other subjects and, as a result, the school’s Year 12 intake this year is 34 per cent greater than last year. Not only has the school welcomed back more Foxford students than before, but it has also more students joining from other schools.

A level results were Foxford’s best to date with 42.1 per cent of students achieving A*-B, which rated Foxford in the top half of schools in the city.

All its Year 13 students have gone on to the destinations of their choosing, some have secured apprenticeship employment, the vast majority however have gone on to university. Although many have stayed close to their Midland roots, some have gone far and wide, including Huddersfield, Bradford and Sheffield. Special mention must be made of Cameron Kanda, who will be studying economics and management at Exeter College, Oxford University. Foxford is very proud that this is the second year running the school has a student studying at Oxford.

All these successes came about through not only the very hard work put in by the students, but also through the partnership which develops during their school life between students, teachers and parents which ensure the students achieve their very best.

Foxford School looks forward to the year ahead and is ready to celebrate more success for its students, both academic and extra-curricular.
