STAFF and students at Stoke Park School are celebrating a very successful start to the autumn term.

“We are delighted by how our students and their families are embracing the positive changes we have introduced at Stoke Park,” said head teacher Sue Jones.

Last week, the school hosted one of its most successful open evenings ever, welcoming more than one hundred families, from 18 different primary schools.

Visiting families were taken on tours of the school, by student leaders from Years 8, 9, 10 and by Sixth Form ambassadors.

Parents were impressed by the good facilities, the range of opportunities, the dedicated teachers and the supportive atmosphere and found the tour guides informative and helpful. Science, drama and PE were particularly popular department areas to visit on the night.

Two of the new Year 7 students addressed parents in the main hall. Kyle said: “Joining Stoke Park was a little bit scary, but also fun and exciting. The teachers make the lessons fun and really get the students involved. I’m particularly enjoying science, because we do lots of practical work and experiments. “I also love English because I enjoy reading, and we get to do lots of it in our lessons.” Sara spoke about the new House system. “I really enjoy my tutor group. There are students from every year group, so you really feel part of the Stoke Park family, and I’ve made some friends from older year groups, not just Year 7.”

The House system at Stoke Park has established a sense of belonging and pride.

Students wear their house tie and can earn house merits through excellent attendance and outstanding attitude to learning.

Students also represent their house in the wide range of extra-curricular activities and house competitions.

The staff at Stoke Park are passionate about delivering an inclusive education and committed to the achievement of every individual. Their mission is to increase the life chances and aspirations of young people from Coventry’s diverse community, by raising standards of learning and providing outstanding educational experiences and outcomes. Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning and personal development, through the school’s “Choice not Chance” approach.

All students at Stoke Park learn the importance of the school’s RESPECT values: Resilience, Excellence, Selfbelief, Pride, Enjoyment, Care and Tolerance.
