Mural to honour town club
A BOLD mural depicting the rich heritage and bright future of a popular club in Nuneaton has been daubed on a once weathered wall.
For more than half a century, the Stockingford Allotment Association, known fondly as the ‘Piv’, has been a landmark building on the town’s map.
Club committee member Bill Olner decided it was time to give the outside of the large building a much-needed make-over and, instead of just giving it a lick of paint, commissioned artist Alisha Miller to create something completely different.
Combining the many aspects of the club, from sports to the allotments and entertainment, the well-known local artist created a striking mural that depicts the club’s place in the heart of the community.
Bill Olner explained: “It was just a large plain wall and I thought that we needed something on there to liven the club up a bit.
“I wanted it to show exactly what happens at the club and I think Alisha has done the perfect job, it looks great.”
Alisha explained how she took inspiration for the mural, saying: “They (the committee) wanted me to show everything that goes on at the club, from sport to the allotments and also the evening entertainment and wedding celebrations and a bit of the history of the place as well.
“I wanted to use the allotments as a framework for the image, I spoke to the committee members and they told me that the allotments are an important part of the club.”
