THIEVES FORCE POPULAR NURSERY TO CLOSE

- By CLAIRE HARRISON News Reporter news@trinitymirror.com

THIEVES have forced a popular Bedworth nursery to close after attempting to get into the building.

Upset pupils were not able to go to Bedworth Heath Nursery School yesterday morning as management had not been able to open.

Headteacher Amanda King explained it is only the third time the school has been targeted in a decade.

“There is glass everywhere, it is such a mess,” she said.

“I am upset that someone has tried to break into the school but the fact that it has disrupted the education for our children and it has caused a huge amount of stress for parents, some of whom have had to take a day off work unpaid, is even more upsetting.”

School staff were waiting for Scenes of Crime Officers (SOCO) to go to the place of learning yesterday to undertake forensics tests, but hope to re-open today.

”The parents have been amazing, some of them have been in this morning and offered to come and help to clean up after they have finished work,” Miss King said.

“We have a real family feel at this school, we are a real part of the community.”

She has appealed to anyone with any information to come forward and asked the community to be vigilant: “We have probably only had three incidents in the ten years I have been head, a lot of the children around here attended the nursery and have grown up with a real sense of it being ‘their nursery,’ we don’t suffer from any anti-social behaviour, we are very fortunate to be part of such a wonderful community.

“It is unsettling that we have had this happen but I am hoping that we will be able to re-open again tomorrow and get things back to normal.”

Anyone with any information about the break-in or spotted anything suspicious in the area should contact police on 101 or the Crimestoppers hotline, which is free to call from a landline and confidential, on 0800 555 111.
