Festive jobs at Royal Mail

- By LAURA HARTLEY News Reporter laura.hartley@trinitymirror.com

ROYAL Mail is opening six temporary centres – including one in Warwickshire – to deal with the huge number of parcel deliveries in the run-up to Christmas.

Around 3,300 seasonal workers will be employed at the sites in Atherstone, Bathgate in West Lothian, Bristol, Greenford in West London, Normanton in West Yorkshire and Warrington.

Last year Royal Mail handled around 130 million Christmas parcels.

The group is taking on 20,000 seasonal workers as it prepares for its busiest time of year.

Royal Mail says: “The Christmas period is naturally a very busy time of year for Royal Mail. To help us handle the increased volumes of mail we require casual workers to sort mail in our mail centres.

“They will work as part of a team ensuring we continue to deliver the high standards of service our customers expect.”

This seasonal processing role involves a variety of warehouse responsibilities, such as unloading mail from vans, moving mail around, and sorting parcels and letters. No experience is necessary and full training will be given to successful candidates. The Christmas casuals play a vital role ensuring that family wishes and memories are delivered on time for a season to remember. Royal Mail told potential staff: “It is a fast-paced and efficient environment and you’ll be working to meet our business performance targets.

“A mail centre can process more than a million items in a shift and you’ll be a valuable part of making that happen.”

The postal services recruits around 20,000 seasonal staff each year to deal with the Christmas rush.

Roles are available from late October through to December 24 with up to four shifts available (early, late, night, and weekends). Start dates and shift patterns for new staff will vary depending on location.
