RAM-RAIDERS STRIKE AT NEWSAGENTS
POLICE LAUNCH APPEAL AFTER ROBBERS RIP CASH MACHINE OUT OF SHOP BUT DROP IT AS THEY FLEE
ROBBERS ram-raided a Nuneaton newsagents with a JCB and managed to rip out the cash machine – but ended up dropping it as they made off.
The raiders ripped the shop face off and tore out the ATM machine from Horeston Grange News and Post Office during the early hours of Saturday.
But it is understood that the cash machine must have fallen out of the pick-up as it was recovered at the scene.
However, a huge amount of damage was caused to the store, which is based in the Horeston Grange Shopping Centre, but it still remained open.
Forensic teams are scouring the crime scene for clues. It is part of the investigation to trace the raiders.
“Police were called at 1.36am on Saturday (November 4) to a report of the attempted theft of an ATM machine,” said a force spokesman.
“Enquiries are ongoing to trace the suspects and forensic examinations are being conducted at the scene of the incident.
“Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference 31 of November 4.”
It is not the first time that cash points have been targeted across the town. Only in recent weeks was an ATM stolen from the co-op store in Galley Common and another cash point was hit in Arley.
In nearby Lutterworth similar raids have taken place as well as in wider Leicestershire.
