Bus blaze horror on city street

- By ENDA MULLEN News Reporter enda.mullen@trinitymirror.com The No 16 bus goes up in flames on Keresley Road

DRAMATIC footage has emerged of firefighters tackling the bus fire that brought Keresley to a standstill on Tuesday afternoon.

Fire crews were called to Keresley Road near to The Wallace pub following reports a No 16 National Express bus had caught fire at around 4.30pm.

Two fire crews from West Midlands Fire Service were called to the scene and tackled the blaze. Fortunately no-one was injured. Photos circulated widely on social media showing the back half of the double-decker bus engulfed by flames and smoke billowing from the scene.

Telegraph reader Joel Lewis also shared some dramatic video footage showing two firefighters attempting to extinguish the blaze.

Keresley Road was closed between Tamworth Road and Norman Place Road whilst firefighters dealt with the fire causing heavy traffic in the area. The fire was put out shortly after 5pm.

In the wake of the blaze a city councillor expressed relief that no one was hurt but also concern that it was the second serious incident involving a No 16 bus in a matter of months.

In March a No 16 bus collided with a house in Keresley causing major damage, though again no one was injured.

Posting on Twitter, Cllr Glenn Williams (Ind, Bablake) said: “Noone hurt thankfully and residents report that all emergency services and council acted quickly.

“Twice in eight months the No 16 has caused chaos on Keresley Road.

“In March a house was destroyed by one. It’s through luck no-one was killed.” To see the video, visit www. coventrytelegraph.net
