Warning letters sent to parents

-

WARNING letters have been hand-delivered to parents and guardians of those suspected to be behind incidents in Bedworth.

Having identified the suspects, members of Bedworth Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) have now taken the drastic step of making their parents and guardians aware of their involvement in the incidents in the town centre.

It is well known that the town has been hit by gangs of bike-riding troublemakers as well as youths climbing on shop roofs.

SNT officers stress that the letters are needed to spell out concerns officers have about the child and go on to threaten further action, such as an Acceptable Behaviour Contract (ABC) or a Criminal Behaviour Order.

A spokesperson for the SNT explained: “We would rather be helping victims of crime, and be more proactive towards other areas of criminality and crime prevention. Any warning letter issued should be treated as serious.

“We would expect parents and guardians to respect the fact that we have taken this route of intervention, and take on board the suggestion or evidence that their child is involved in anti-social behaviour. The behaviour itself can be very intimidating for others, including other parents, other young people and business owners.”

The spokesperson went on to add that the warning letters could be just the start. “The bottom line is that we will follow-up on antisocial behaviour.”
