Recovering No.2 Taylor’s Ricoh return

-

COVENTRY City assistant manager Steve Taylor has been back at the Ricoh Arena on a matchday for the first time since suffering a life threatening bleed on the brain.

The 47-year-old collapsed at the Sky Blues’ Ryton training ground in August and admitted to hospital for emergency treatment.

Taylor, a popular figure with the players, was allowed home after two days where he has been convalescing since. And although he’s still got a long way to go with his recovery, he feels well enough to attend home games.

“I have been back at the Ricoh and sat in the stands,” said Mark Robins’s No.2, who remains on officially off work while he continues his recovery.

“I have been getting the games live streamed into my home to enable me to keep abreast of things and it’s great to see the lads doing well, particularly at Luton recently.”

Robins said: “He was at the match on Sunday and again on Tuesday night, which is good to see.

“He’s still recovering, got a little bit to go yet and I’m sure he’ll keep us updated as things progress. But he’s getting better. These things just take time, although I don’t know what that timescale will be.

“It’s great to see him at the ground. He’s been watching things, watching the games from the comfort of his home but it’s not the same.

“While he was poorly, while he was ill – and I’m not saying he’s not still ill because he hasn’t recovered yet – but right at the beginning of it he was very tired and sleeping a lot but when he was awake he watching games. But that’s been his life and his career and yes, it’s good to see him back.”

A Morgan Crowther hat-trick and some inspired goalkeeping gave Coventry City Under-18s victory 3-2 at Accrington Stanley in the FA Youth Cup.

The Sky Blues raced into a two goal lead in a gutsy display on the road, securing their passage to the next round with a third after the home side had pulled a goal back amid a determined second half fightback at the Wham Stadium.

City have had a miserable season, losing all ten league games, but have enjoyed respite in the cup, beating Lincoln 2-1 at Sincil Bank in the first round last week – their first win of the season.
