- By DAVID WHINYATES News Reporter news@trinitymirror.com

CARDINAL Wiseman Catholic Sixth Form achieved the best A-level results in Coventry in 2016 – and young people and their families are being invited to find out more about the range of courses on offer at an open evening later this month.

Visitors will be able to speak to staff and students and hear more about the wide variety of learning options available, including both A-level and BTEC courses.

The event, being held on Tuesday, November 28 from 5pm to 7pm, will also proudly showcase the sixth form’s new Football Academy which will offer a Level 3 Football Apprenticeship Scheme from September 2018.

The apprenticeship is aimed at young players who have aspirations to improve their all-round football ability but also appreciate the value of their academic studies. It will also offer students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in coaching with a view to developing a career in the sports industry.

Cardinal Wiseman Catholic Sixth Form, which is part of the Romero Catholic Academy, prides itself on being a place where students can build on their existing skills, learn new ones and feel prepared for whatever life has to offer. It sets high standards in terms of pupil conduct and effort and expects pupils to be the best they can be.

This is reflected in its outstanding A-level results, outperforming the national average and achieving the best results in Coventry in 2016.

The sixth form also provides an enrichment programme which helps to develop students’ employability skills for life beyond sixth form, helping them stand out from the crowd when applying for university, apprenticeships or employment.

Richard Kingshott, head of sixth form, said: “We strive to provide our students with a high-quality education supported by dedicated staff members.

“We had the best A-level results in the city in 2016, but we also work hard to ensure our students develop a strong social and pastoral perspective. We look to enrich our students’ passions and interests by means of activities in and out of school, including sports, drama, music, art, community and charity work.

“I look forward to welcoming families to our open evening to find out more about the range of learning options available at our sixth form.”

Ex-pupil Kevin Rodgers, group chief executive of WM Housing Group, will also be speaking on the night. The open evening is available to anyone wishing to find out more information about the Sixth Form and booking is not required.
