- By LAURA HARTLEY News Reporter news@trinitymirror.com

CHRISTMAS shoppers will once again be able to park for free in the run up to Christmas.

Free parking will be available on all Wednesdays for all shoppers after 3pm from November 22.

During the last week before Christmas, every day after 3pm will also be free.

This is only inclusive from Monday December 18 to Friday December 22.

The free parking coincides with the Christmas light switch on on Wednesday November 22, where thousands of people are expected to flock to the city centre for the annual festivities.

And Cllr Jayne Innes, the council’s cabinet member for city services, said the free parking will support the city’s residents.

She said: “We don’t have to do it, but it is about supporting local businesses as well as supporting residents.

“We have got new restaurants this year so they are all open for people to enjoy.

“People won’t have to worry about change for parking, and it will help people save money.”

All council operated car parks will offer free parking during the above times. These include: Barracks Bishop Street Cheylesmore car park City Arcade Car Park Cox Street car park Gosford Street Car Park Grosvenor Road Car Park Grove Street Car Park Lower Ford Street Car Park Manor House Car Park New Union Street Car Park Salt Lane Car Park Spon Street Car Park West Orchards Whitefriars Car Park
