five ways to...
HELP YOU SWITCH OFF
AN OFCOM report says we spend an average of 25 hours a week on the internet. If you want to know how and when to switch off, here are some useful tips.
1 No phones at the table:
On average, we look at our phones 110 times a day and 40% of us have been “smart snubbed” – ignored by someone looking at their phones at the table. So set aside your phone during meals, and keep it out of sight when you’re with friends.
2 Talk to your partner face to face:
Lots of couples spend more time looking at their screens than each other, which can contribute to a lack of intimacy. So spend time connecting by turning off the TV, phone and computer, and do more things together.
3 Exercise:
Not only does exercise release feel-good endorphins, it separates you from your phone. Whether you do a yoga class or work out in the gym, make sure you don’t take your phone with you.
4 Set time limits:
The first step is to stop using your device two hours before bedtime as the blue light from your devices disrupts your sleep. As a next step, while at work you could decide to only check your phone at 9am, noon and 4pm for five minutes.
5 Put your phone on silent:
On silent, your phone won’t be constantly ringing and popping up with messages and notifications, so you’re in charge of when you check it.
