HOMELESS CHARITY WANTS TO RAISE £7,200 IN ONE WEEK

- > CLAIRE HARRISON REPORTS:

CHARITY bosses who help homeless young people across Nuneaton and Bedworth have launched their biggest fundraising drive yet – to raise £7,200 in just one week.

Doorway is taking part in the Big Give Christmas Challenge, which is the nation’s biggest online match funding campaign and gives charities the chance to have any donations double during the week of the ‘Big Give.’

It goes live at midday tomorrow on what is known as #GivingTuesday and runs until midday on Tuesday, December 5.

Carol Gallagher, chief executive officer at Doorway, explained: “This year we’re looking to raise a total of £7200. In order to access the £1,800 we have in the matching pot, we need to raise £3,600 in online donations. We hope everyone will give generously this Christmas to help us reach our target and enable us to carry on the work we all feel so passionately about”.

The £7,200 target would go towards the work that Doorway does to help young people who have found themselves on the streets or without a permanent roof over their heads,#

It will help pay towards various workshops at Doorway such as Lifewise and Job Wise where young people can gain AQA accredited qualifications as well as get involved in organised team and character building activities.

“All of these activities aim to improve their mental health and wellbeing and develop their life skills to enable them to make a positive contribution to society either through education, volunteering or employment by empowering them to turn their lives around,” the chief executive officer said.

The ‘Big Give’ comes during a special year for Doorway, which is based in Dugdale Street, as it marks the charity’s 20th anniversary.

The good cause has been providing housing advice, accommodation and support to vulnerable young homeless people aged 16 to 25 for two decades.
