Thomas steps into coach role

A YOUNGSTER who has always loved football started on a Step into a Sport and Active Leisure Industry course at Coventry College and now he is in a coaching job.

Thomas Hopkins had been playing for the second football team at the Henley campus for two years and as part of his study programme he had the opportunit­y to gain an FA coaching badge, and this helped him to get a job with Sky Blues in the Community as a football coach.

“My lecturer told me about the recruitmen­t day and I was delighted to get the part-time coaching job as I am still studying for my Level 3 sport qualificat­ion,” said Thomas.

Since working for the Sky Blues, Thomas has gained his Level 2 and 3 coaching badges. He said: “You have got to believe in what you want to do and then stick to your plan!

“I am hoping to do the personal trainer and the gym instructor courses as it will give me the option of three different jobs in the future. I am very grateful to Woody my tutor who gave me the opportunit­y to coach as I have always loved playing football and I am keen to pass my knowledge on to younger children.”
