A NEW specialised home for children could be built in Coventry if planning chiefs approve the plans.

The planning application has been submitted for a six bedroom semidetached house to be transformed into a children’s home.

The house which is set to be transformed is in St Paul’s Road, in Folesill.

It’s set to be run by Thompson’s Children’s Home’s LTD, and provide a home for children who will be looked after 24 hours a day seven days a week.

Children aged 11 to 17 will be living in the home and looked after by two members of staff who will also sleep there.

A description of the proposal says: “This will be registered by OFSTED for three children aged between the ages of 11 to 17.

“No emergency placements will be excepted and all children living there will be on a medium to long term basis.

“There will be two adults on site at all times 24 hours a day which will also sleep in the property, meaning that no child will ever be left unsupervised and no more than five people will be sleeping in the building.

“A fire system will be fitted along with bedroom door alarms.

“The property has already got fire doors in place and no structural change to the building needs to be made.” The house is already used as supported living for vulnerable adults, but this will change if the plans are approved.

In October, it was revealed Coventry children’s home The Grange had shut down amid controversial plans to rehome youngsters in a number of smaller houses.

The Brownshill Green home shut for the last time at the start of September as part of a shake-up of the city’s residential care provision for children.

The next phase will see the council buy three six-bedroom properties in the city centre, each one housing four children.

It isn’t yet confirmed if this planning application is one of those three properties. The application has been submitted but the date hasn’t been set for when a decision will be made.
