A HUMBLE Nuneaton bobby has spoken of his amazement that his ‘nothing special’ gesture has made him a social media hero.

PC Gavin Parrott has admit- ted being a bit embarrassed about the huge attention he has been given ever his since a simple act of kindness went viral.

Nuneaton resident Ian Taplin posted on Twitter: “PC1151 of @ warkspolice you are an angel my friend.

“I’ve just saw you take two homeless guys into a McDonalds in snowy Nuneaton, pay for their food out of your own money and walk away. He never done it for kudos he done it for kindness. Much respect for our police force.”

This has now been seen by thousands of people, been ‘liked’ by 1,700 people and shared more than 500 times.

Through the tweet, it emerged that PC 1151 was in fact PC Parrott who was oblivious to the huge outpouring of praise.

“I am stunned and humbled and a bit embarrassed to be honest,” said PC Parrott, who has been with Warwickshire Police Force since 2014 having transferred from London. “I was on foot in the town centre during my shift. I thought I’d check and see if the homeless were okay, as our town centre team check daily. One chap who was opposite McDonalds had been bought breakfast, so I stopped for a chat. I continued walking around the town and started talking to another couple in a door way. I just simply asked if they wanted a hot drink and some food. So they came with me to McDonalds.”

He went on to explain that: “It wasn’t done for recognition. Checking on our homeless communities is something our town centre team does daily/weekly or anyone of us who is walking to our respective beat areas.”

He went on to add that such acts of generosity happen all of the time in Nuneaton.

“There is plenty of evidence of what the Nuneaton public have been doing on Facebook, all you have to do is look at social media,” he said.
