Anger after duck savaged

- By CLAIRE HARRISON Nuneaton Reporter news@trinitymirror.com

YOBS who let a dog maul a duck at a Nuneaton beauty spot and then left it for dead have been branded as ‘scum’.

Despite the best efforts of the Nuneaton and Warwickshire Wildlife Sanctuary, the duck sadly died days after the attack at Stubbs’ Pool in Camp Hill.

Now Geoff Grewcock, the founder of the Oaston Roadbased animal haven, is desperate for the group of youths who let a Staffordshire Bull Terrier attack the duck to be identified and brought to justice.

“I am so mad that this duck was attacked by a dog,” he said.

“I feel sick that they can do this with no feeling for life. I am fed up of picking up the aftermath from scum.”

He explained that the nature of the attack came to light after someone brought the duck into the sanctuary last week.

“When I looked at the injuries, I thought it had been attacked by a dog but I couldn’t confirm for sure.

Then, the next day I had a phone call from a woman who said ‘Have you had a duck brought in?’ She said she saw a group of youths let a Staffie on it. It was absolutely horrendous, we are asking anyone who saw anything to ring the police on 101.”

He added that such attacks are, sadly, becoming common place.

“It is getting beyond a joke the amount of animals we see that have been attacked,” he said.

“I just don’t know how people let it happen.”

Having been incredibly busy all year, the sanctuary is gearing up for even more calls.

The good cause is wellstocked in terms of some equipment: “We could really do with some towels and blankets, we have lots of quilts, but we always need towels and blankets, so if anyone can donate any to us, that would be great,” he said. Other donations, such as funding, will also be welcomed.

Anyone with any information about the attack should either call police on 101 or the Crimestoppers hotline, which is free to call from a landline and confidential, on 0800 555 111.
