COVENTRY residents will be able to use the city’s health services on Christmas Day as the NHS prepares for one of the busiest times of the year.

The walk-in centre in Stoney Stanton Road, Hillfields, is set to be open on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day – as well as their normal opening hours.

It is open 8am to 10pm, seven days a week including weekends and bank holidays.

However, the GP surgery which is at the same location as the walk-in centre will be closed.

The surgery, which is run by Virgin Care, will be open as usual from 8am to 6.30pm through the Christmas and New Year period but will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day as well as weekends as normal. The service will operate its extended hours on Wednesday 27 December and Tuesday 2 January from 9am to 8.30pm. Registered patients should have sent their last repeat prescriptions five days before Christmas for enough medication through the holiday season. City of Coventry NHS Healthcare Centre provides free NHS services such as health checks for issues such as asthma, vaccinations and immunisations, maternity medical services and blood pressure monitoring to registered patients. Susie Bell, service manager at City of Coventry Healthcare Centre, said: “Christmas is such a busy time for services like ours so it’s important we offer services so that locals can access healthcare when they need to.”
