Council say: Keep your bins out

-

HOUSEHOLDERS are being told to leave their bins out as crews attempt to tackle the backlog of collections across Nuneaton and Bedworth

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council’s bin collections have been severely hit by the impact of the snow and then icy conditions.

It had been hoped that extra collections would be held last Saturday to help deal with some of the missed collections but the still treacherous roads meant that not all could be carried out.

This has led to an ever-bigger back-log and council bosses are thanking people for their patience and have drafted in extra crews to try and make sure the missed collections are made.

However, no specific dates have been announced, so people are simply being asked to leave their bins out in readiness for when a collection can be made.

Councillor Barry Longden, cabinet with responsibility for refuse collection said: “The severe snow and ice created conditions that were not safe for our crews, trucks or the public. This meant that bins were not emptied on the scheduled day and we have to catch up.

“We are sorry for the inconvenience caused if you are still waiting for your bin to be emptied. Our crews are working hard to clear the backlog and will get to you as soon as possible. Please keep presenting your bin until it is emptied.

“Refuse collection across the whole of the Midlands has been badly affected; most councils are dealing with backlogs so as you might imagine, crews and vehicles are in very high demand everywhere.”

He concluded: “I’d like to thank residents for their patience and understanding. I’d also like to thank our crews who are working so hard.”
