Winter boots are made for walking
Get out and about on a fun walking festival
WHACK on those walking boots because the Ramblers Association is ready to get everyone out and about with its annual Festival of Winter Walks.
Running from December 23 to January 7, there are events across the UK and ideas for plenty of walks on your own.
It doesn’t matter how old you are or how adventurous you’re feeling, either.
“We’ve got fun festive-themed walks that the little ones will love and leisurely strolls under five miles for people new to walking,” says a Ramblers’ spokesperson. “And there are longer walks for those who want more of a challenge over the Christmas break.”
Walks take place across England, Scotland and Wales, from cities to the coast, and from parkland to country fields. All walks are led by experienced volunteers.
But if you don’t want to join a group walk, you can still get involved by finding your own winter walk with Ramblers Routes – the association’s online library of more than 2,750 walking routes, with printable, easy-to-read maps and simple route directions.
You can use the free walks tracker to find and log your own walks and, throughout the festival, you’ll be able to sign up, create your walking profile and set your own challenges.
You’ll also be able to record your walks to earn up to 32 unique badges, and watch your progress as you climb the leaderboards.
