YOUNGSTERS TAKE ON CHRISTMAS BAKE-OFF CHALLENGE
YOUNGSTERS from Gosford Primary School enjoyed the sweet taste of victory after taking part in a baking competition.
The gifted bakers fought off stiff competition from Moathouse, St Christopher and Potters Green Primary Schools in a two-hour challenge to bake the best sponge cake at a Christmas BakeOff at Grace Academy Coventry.
The students involved were aged from seven to ten years old.
“They were all really looking forward to doing this and it’s great for their confidence,” said Freda Masterson, teaching assistant from the triumphant Gosford Park.
“They’ve been working independently and it really was like the real Bake-Off.”
Students from Potters Green created a winter wonderland cake with a snowman on top.
Annie Clarke, learning mentor from Potters Green, said: “We were excited to be asked and honoured to be involved.
“The children baking were recommended for their outstanding attendance and it’s great for their self-esteem. We did a practice cake with them at school last week and I think it was the largest slab of cake they have ever eaten, with a surprise treat in the middle.”
The event was held at Grace Academy Coventry so students could have access to the academy’s extensive cooking facilities.
Rob Walker, assistant principal for ethos and student life, said: “We are really fortunate to have the facilities we do and it’s great to be able to give something back to the local community.
“It’s been so exciting to see the wonderful cakes the children have created, and the whole challenge has been great in building their teamwork, critical thinking and time management skills.”
