Party tribute in memory of Ava

A BIRTHDAY bash with a difference is being held this weekend – to raise money in memory of a much-missed toddler who cruelly lost her life to meningitis.

Tomorrow the whole community in Bedworth is being invited to celebrate Wayne Hill’s 40th birthday.

The party is being thrown by his wife Hayley in memory of their baby daughter Ava, who died from meningitis just two weeks after her first birthday in November 2014.

The Hill family wanted to mark Wayne’s milestone birthday by doing something special for their daughter as well as raising disease awareness and cash for Meningitis Now.

“Ava had pneumococcal meningitis and meningococcal septicaemia, it was awful,” said Hayley.

“She was such a happy baby, adored by her big brother Nathan and her daddy so much. She was always smiling and laughing. She was our princess and we just miss her so, so much.”

The party is being held on Saturday from 6pm at Newdigate Colliery Club in Smorrall Lane the day after Wayne’s birthday.

Doors open at 6pm, and everyone is welcome to come along and dance the night away.

“We’re not charging an entry fee and there will be a DJ,” Hayley added. “To raise funds we’re having a raffle and people will also be able to donate to the charity.”

Leah Wynn, community fundraiser at Meningitis Now, said: “What a lovely gesture by Hayley and Wayne to fight back against meningitis in this way. As a charity that receives no government funding we rely on the energy, initiative and enthusiasm of our supporters to continue our vital work. Support like this ensures that this lifeline can continue.”
