Tools stolen as van ripped open

A FAMILY firm insists it’s business as usual despite being targeted by thieves.

A gang of crooks broke in to a van belonging to Dawson Groundcare while it was parked in Eastern Green and stole a number of chainsaws and other tools. The panel of the van was peeled away like a tin can on December 29 before the thieves also raided the company’s shed.

The business is run by James Dawson, his dad and James’ two brothers. James posted photos of the damaged van online following the break-in and told the Telegraph he believes a screwdriver was used to make a hole in the panel of the van, before the culprits used tools to slice it open and then bend it back. James, 26, said: “My dad got the call at around 1am and went to the yard. “They had gone in to the van and also in to the shed. They had taken three chainsaws, a hedge cutter and a disc cutter from the van and we thing they were then going through the shed when the van alarm went off. “There were packs of gloves strewn across the yard and my dad then parked the van in a better place.”

James said they despite the theft, the business has been “able to carry on as we are flat out with other work”.

He previously stated on Facebook that he believes the thieves fled the scene in a white people carrier with roof bars and blacked out rear windows

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “We are investigating reports of burglary in Eastern Green where tools were taken on the morning of December 29.

Anyone with information can call 101 and give crime reference number 20CV/280370K/17.”
