Popular town golf course is closed until further notice
A POPULAR golf course has closed until further notice after the operators pulled out.
Customers at Newbold Comyn Golf Course, in Leamington, will have to find somewhere new to play for the foreseeable future after Mack Golf ended its running of the course on December 31, 2017.
Warwick District Council announced the news, saying that, in doing so, Mack Golf had breached a 50-year contract which had been due to run until 2060.
The announcement means that the golf course and pitch and putt are now closed until further notice, and members of the public are not permitted to play golf on the course as it “could be hazardous to other park users”.
The district council did say that designated footpaths will remain open to the general public.
In a statement, the district council stated: “For the avoidance of doubt, the action taken by Mack has not been agreed by Warwick District Council.”
Cllr Michael Coker, portfolio holder for culture, added: “I am very disappointed by Mack’s actions and I am consulting with colleagues about our next steps. I have not been happy with Mack’s performance for quite a while now so unfortunately this comes as little surprise, despite the effort the council’s officers and I have put into trying to turn things around.”
The district council advises users of the golf course to visit www.warwickdc.gov.uk\Leisure for any updates.
Mack Golf has been contacted for comment.
