An Elusive Gift

-

Anticipation was strong when it was time, To exchange family gifts, a tradition fine, A great part of Christmas this proved to be, The children for excited it was great to see. There were shouts of joy as everything went well, And sounds of approval and pleasure fell, Then a grandchild had a confession to make, To her gran, and this is the form it did take. “Did you hear a crash upstairs earlier today? Well that was your present, I am sad to say, But I will mend it and tomorrow you will have. My gifts to you so please don’t be sad”. No mended present has yet come her way, And it was thought that counted she would say, But sometimes a thought may come into her mind, Of what her gift was she guiltily may find.
