Aspiring teachers in Coventry are being encouraged to discover more about the rewards and opportunities a career in teaching can offer at the Train to Teach roadshow.

The event is on a national tour and will be at the University of Warwick today.

The event – part of the annual Get Into Teaching campaign and organised in partnership with the University of Warwick – is aimed at encouraging more graduates to teach.

It is also aimed at those who might be looking for a change of career.

It offers a chance for aspiring teachers to get all their questions about a career in teaching answered in one place. It will highlight competitive starting salaries and employment prospects as well as the financial support available – some could get a £26,000 taxfree bursary to train as a teacher.

Those who attend will be able to meet representatives from schools and universities that provide teacher training, gain insights into how to apply and receive one-to-one advice from current teachers and experts.

Applications for teacher training starting in September 2018 are now open, with popular courses filling up fast.

Roger Pope, spokesperson for the Get Into Teaching campaign and chair of the National College for Teaching and Leadership, said: “Good teachers are in demand and the career provides excellent employment prospects with the opportunity to progress quickly.

“Alongside the generous bursaries and scholarships on offer, we provide a comprehensive programme of support to help people become teachers.

“The Train to Teach roadshow in Coventry isn’t only for graduates – every year, we see people from other sectors switching to teaching, bringing a wealth of experience to help inspire the next generation.”

The Train to Teach event is being held at the University of Warwick, Rootes Building, Conference Park, Gibbet Hill Road from 12noon to 4pm.
