SCHOOL BASED COPS IN TOWNS TO BE AXED
COMMUNITY BOBBIES REMAIN ACCESSIBLE TO PUPILS AND TEACHERS
COMMUNITY bobbies are being axed from their bases in schools across Nuneaton, Bedworth and North Warwickshire.
The Telegraph can reveal that the current ‘Safer School’ Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) are being withdrawn from their bases within schools.
The trio, who cover schools in Nuneaton, Bedworth, Atherstone, Hartshill, Polesworth, Coleshill and Rugby will, instead, re-join Safer Neighbourhood Teams (SNTS).
A spokesperson for Warwickshire Police Force said that even though the officers are being removed from their in-school roles, they will continue to have relationships with places of learning.
It is a decision that has been made county-wide as part of a move to make the most of the PCSOs the force has available.
“We are making changes to our Safer Neighbourhood Teams (SNTs) to ensure we can provide the best possible service to all of our communities with the resources available to us,” the spokesperson said. “This will involve safer school PCSOs, who are assigned to schools, having a broader role within our SNTs.
“Our PCSOs along with our youth engagement officers will continue to work closely with all the schools in their individual neighbourhoods.
“The safer school PCSOs have built up excellent relationships with pupils and teachers and this will be invaluable in their roles in the SNTs.”
The spokesperson concluded: “Our policing services remain accessible to every school in the county and we will continue to work in partnership to tackle crime and issues that negatively impact upon Warwickshire communities.”
