A5 debate in Parliament

-

A BID to get a stretch of the A5 transformed into a dual carriageway, to ease traffic at a notorious Nuneaton junction, will be debated in the corridors of power in Parliament.

Marcus Jones, the town’s MP and Craig Tracey, his Bedworth and North Warwickshire counterpart, have secured a debate in Parliament today in regards to the A5.

They, alongside Mark Pawsey, who is Rugby’s MP, Tamworth MP Chris Pincher and David Tredinnick MP for Hinckley and Bosworth, want to get the need for action on the A5 onto the agenda – and included in the future roads investment programme.

They are calling for the A5 between the M42 and M1 to be transformed into dual carriageway.

Mr Jones said that this would bypass the Long Shoot junction, known for its traffic issues, as well as the challenges at Woodford Lane, in North Warwickshire.

“The need for the A5 to be a dual carriageway is obvious to those of us who use it or suffer the knock-on effects of congestion from a road that is no longer able to cope with the number of vehicles using it” said Marcus Jones.

“The additional traffic that the borough council’s ill-thought development proposals generate simply add to the pressure on local infrastructure and increase traffic delays throughout Nuneaton. Boosting capacity on the A5 should help relieve some of those pressures too.”
