BRINGING a desperately needed new GP surgery in Nuneaton to help cope with an influx of new homeowners is moving forward.

It has been confirmed that a business case is being prepared as part of the plans to provide the new surgery in the Weddington area of town.

It is well known that there are new developments being built in the east of town and, as a result of planning permission being granted, money is given, via what is known as a Section 106 agreement, towards the provision of GP places and the new surgery will serve the new homes being built.

But the plans have been on the cards for some time and the Telegraph was keen to find out the latest, so contacted the Warwickshire North Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), which is in charge of commissioning many of the healthcare services across the borough.

A spokesperson for the CCG explained that they have sought expert help to create a business case in a bid to get the extra funding needed to pay for the surgery via the Estate Technology Transformation fund.

“Work continues to take place in the Weddington area to meet the needs of the growing population,” the spokesperson said.

“The Weddington development is one of the sites for which Warwickshire North Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) are developing a business case as required by NHS England to take forward the CCG’s Estates Technology Transformation Fund proposals.

“Through the Estates and Technology Transformation Fund the CCG have commissioned expertise to support the production of an outline business case which will inform our plans to meet demand for general medical services for our local population. We continue to engage with stakeholders as we finalise our outline business case and take forward our proposals. The CCG are working closely with all key partners including NHS England, Member Practices, NHS Property Services, Public Health Warwickshire and Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council to provide their population with the best health services possible.”
