STUDENTS of Barr’s Hill School have been working extremely hard in showing their abilities and talent.

In a recent event held in the Radford Road school called “Showcase Day,” students had the opportunity to share their own speeches on learning and education at Barr’s Hill School to their parents, guardians and teachers.

“I am proud of all students for taking pride in their education and lessons with their fantastic speeches on Showcase Day,” said acting head teacher Chris Jupp. “Thank you to all parents and guardians for attending with their son or daughter and to staff for their feedback on students and their performance in lessons.”

Three Year 8 students from Barr’s Hill School recently performed outstandingly at the public speaking competition held at Bablake School on behalf of the Coventry Rotary Club.

Many Coventry schools were involved, with various topics held in debate. Barr’s Hill students debated: “Should Pluto be a planet?”

Students were praised by many watching as they received their awards for second place.

The Rotary Youth Speaks Competition is organised and promoted by Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland.

It is a four-stage competition for 11-13 years which is designed to support and encourage the development of effective communication skills. Each team member takes on one of three roles for their talk: chairperson, speaker and vote of thanks.
