old town Pub could soon be converted to flats
PLANNERS MEET TODAY TO DECIDE ON FUTURE OF BEDWORTH BOOZER
A FORMER Bedworth boozer could be transformed into a block of flats.
It is being proposed to convert the former British Queen pub in Kings Street and create 12 flats with new vehicular access.
The application has been submitted to Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council and it will see the area transformed.
The former pub, which is based next to a former theatre and close to the old Engine pub, has been closed for some time.
A planning application, this time for 28 apartments and two houses, was previously approved in November 2015 but no action has been taken on the site.
Planning officers at the Town Hall have received eight letters of objection, from six different addresses, to the plans, which have raised concerns about its proximity to a pedestrian route used by children, potential noise, insufficient car parking, the car park entrance will be close to homes nearby and the how the development could impact on safety near to the busy junction with Kings Garden and King Street.
But officers are recommending that the plan be given the go-ahead.
In a report to members of the council’s planning committee, it states: “The development of this land for residential purposes is considered to be deal residential is the town such to links further other transport “The “Being only shops an and East. of as to appropriate means centre a residential the surrounding afield the uses the few and such in uses, added shorter rest hundred of close scattered facilities, brings with as sustainable and of the uses benefits use proximity the walking bus area the added railway metres of in, the around borough the town routes some has to increased means land. distance sustainable benefits away station, a to centre these commercial good and and the to of living “It the is such site within that also that urban new it these pertinent this is the preferential development area, site afford. urban is to and within mention area as to brownfield area. beyond first “Given before the that land, settlement extending the there site is is a presumption development. development a presumption in favour here, in of as favour sustainable there of is in factors “The this location principle therefore is of weigh acceptable. the development significantly These in “In favour this of case the access application. to the rear parking made area from of an the access development from Kings is to Gardens be entry to giving the car a park vehicular at the rear means of the of site.” Despite the recommendation, it will be planning members who make the final decision when they meet in the council chamber tomorrow.
